Intelligent construction drawing recognition

AMT Quantity Takeoff

Intelligent quantity takeoff from DXF drawings

An intelligent construction-drawing recognition system for cost estimation and structural teams. It extracts structural concrete quantities from DXF drawings automatically — member lengths, areas, and volumes in one click — compressing 3 days of manual takeoff into 30 minutes. Pure Python with zero CAD software dependency, outputting traceable annotated drawings and Excel quantity sheets.

Core Capabilities

Fully automated from drawing import to traceable output

Automated DXF extraction and calculation

Reads DXF entity geometry directly and computes member length, area, and concrete volume via 'section properties × geometric length/area' — no picking members one by one in CAD; takeoff starts the moment a drawing is imported.

Smart layer recognition

Layer naming varies wildly across design institutes. Fuzzy keyword matching plus an alias dictionary adapts to abbreviations like COL/COLUMN and BEAM/BM, and a three-level fallback ('layer property → annotation text → default value') keeps the miss rate under 5%.

Multi-dimensional rollups

The result isn't a pile of numbers. Roll up freely by floor, zone, or member type — bidding, costing, and procurement each get their view; one sheet tells the whole quantity story.

Traceable output

Every quantity traces back to the original drawing. The system annotates member IDs and results on the original DXF and generates a formatted Excel quantity sheet — audits, reconciliation, and reviews all have receipts, not black-box numbers.

Workflow

DXF to quantities in four steps

1

Import DXF

Drag in the construction drawing DXF — no AutoCAD or Revit required

2

Smart recognition

Layers and member categories matched automatically; three-level fallback cuts misses

3

Automatic takeoff

Member length, area, and concrete volume computed from section and geometry

4

Traceable output

Annotated drawings and Excel quantity sheets; every line item traceable

Use Cases

Built for different engineering teams

🏗️

Cost estimation and bidding

Bidding needs quantities fast; manual measuring is slow and error-prone

Fast quantity output
Avoids 10-20% deviation
Cross-check against manual
🏢

Multi-project structural consulting

Projects run in parallel while team capacity is capped by takeoff staffing

Run projects in parallel

Scalable capacity
💳

Small and mid-size design institutes

Steep annual fees for traditional commercial software strain small teams

Replaces costly tools
Zero CAD dependency
Lower procurement cost
🌍

International projects

Overseas projects need unified quantity standards for audit and traceability
